While doing some follow-ups today a customer engaged me in the regulations and licensing in our industry. What followed was an enjoyable question and answer time that I enjoy because I genuinly love the pest control business be it weeds or bugs, it is just fun. Not to get off track, let me get back to our industry and the products we use.

The pest control industry is one of the most highly regulated industries in the world. Here , we have to deal with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) the Department of Transportation (DOT) as well as State Departments of Agriculture in the day to day operation of our businesses. .

The products we use take ten (10) years to go from development to use and the cost to the manufacturer is about $200,000,000. That is alot of money to finally get a product that can be used by the home owner or a professional service such as Tri-Hill.

Did you know the products on the market are required to pass over 120 tests by the government to be registered and ONLY one (1) product in 20,000 make it through the process to make it to market.

I can’t say the products out there are safe as even too much coffee can cause a problem but I can say that what you see at the local store or used by a professional service provider is heavily tested and is one of thousands of products tested that past the “gauntlet” to make it to the end user.

Remimber, always read the label and don’t use more than the label calls for as more does not mean better.  If you are doing it yourself, follow the label or just call your local pest professional when you can’t stand the weeds & bugs any longer.
